Patani Local Government of Delta State, was on a stood still as eminent political figure and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) numbering over five thousand ditched the party for the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Led by the immediate past chairman of the local government Mr. Chris Ekiyor , the decampees said the decision to leave the PDP was informed by the high handed impunity in the party and the sad imposition of candidates on the people against their wish for the January 6, 2018 Local Government Election in the state. They cited lack of internal democracy in the party and frowned at the action of the Okowa-led government in the State to force an unpopular candidate on them.
Receiving the decampees at the party’s secretariat in Patani, Olorogun Otega Emerhor and Hon. Dr. Cairo Ojougboh speaking at the event lauded the decampees for their foresight and courage to dump the PDP and join the progressives. Olorogun Otega Emerhor assured them that the party would treat them as equals, stressing that politics was about interest and service to the people.
Dr. Cairo Ojougboh encouraged them to ensure they register in the ongoing voter registration exercise and get their voter cards as it is their only potent weapon to rescue Delta State from the hands of looters in government house in Asaba. He reminded them that rescuing Delta State from mediocrity, incompetence, directionless and visionlessness is a collective responsibility for all well meaning Deltans.
Mr. Tambowei Fizumugha who spoke on behalf of the decampees in his closing remark said what is happening today is an earthquake that will bury PDP in Patani local government area. “We can assure you that in 2019, the Patani people will ensure they vote out Okowa”. He said the decision to ditch PDP is a justifiable decision by the people because the governor of Delta State has shown the Patani people that he is tribalized coupled with his abysmal performance so far .
